ROOTS PARTIES Since 2017, DELIRIOUS has been hosting Roots Parties, where we invite people to join Edisa in the journey of making 1,865 roots out of paper and twine for the Liberty installation. The roots parties are like a mash-up between a sewing bee and barbershop talk, where people can make roots, enjoy a meal, and participate in a community discussion connected to liberty in America. more information here.
DEVISED WORK: PROCESS TO PERFORMANCE This workshop encourages dancers and choreographers to create personal and original movement stories. Using questions as prompts, participants will develop their own material, and then through structured improvisations, text and visual imagery, collaborate with a partner(s) on structuring a short, devised movement haiku. Participants are encouraged to widen their theatrical and kinesthetic imagination and ability.
CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUE: DANCING WITH PRECISION AND ABANDONMENT Working with concepts of falling, momentum, suspension, as well as with breath and structured improvisations, we will explore a way of moving that emphasizes ease and efficiency. You will be encouraged to discover and utilize efficiency of movement within your individual body structures; cultivate exploration, creativity, and risk taking; and to dance with both precision and abandonment.
PLAY, PROCESS & PARTNERING This workshop explores the basic skills of partnering through use of momentum, counter balance, trust, weight sharing, and lifts. Guided improvisations develop the trust and responsibility that is essential when moving in close proximity and in contact with other people. Participants are encouraged to investigate their individual creativity, and in collaboration with a partner(s) to create movement phrases which will be shared with the class.
